It took a LONG time to put Pat's rod together, but it was well worth the wait. The hardest component to locate was a matching TiCH winding check...Dave down at Creekside happened to have a slew of them!

Things I learned while building this rod

After doing several 7-8 wt. rods with wooden insert reel seats, I'm going to suggest staying away from them in future rods...especially in the burl woods. It takes HOURS to ream them to the proper inner diameter, so either keep these on 6wts or smaller OR we'll have to consider custom manufacturers like REC (very pricey). Sometimes the A8, with a wood insert, is almost getting to the point of being too thin in my opinion. Sure, once it's installed on the rod it's fine (supported by the blank and epoxy), but prior to about sweating bullets!

Dave Winslow created this stunning reel seat and fighting butt...the but used up enough wood to turn EIGHT regular reel seat inserts! Pat got a steal of a deal on this..won't be so inexpensive on the next one!

The TiCH Hook Keeper and Winding Check. The first decorative wrap was a Snakeskin wrap...too busy for Pat's tastes. We settled on a double diamond wrap.

The St. Croix decal was placed underneath.
