This ended up being an extremely SHORT fishing excursion. Basically, we calculated that we had to allow for 5 hours for the drive to Denver, at least 30 minutes to drop our our rental car, and 2 hours for checking in, security, and boarding our flight back to Chicago. When all the math was done, we had to leave Almont no later than 9:30 AM!

Well, at 8:58 we were packed, checked out and ready to go! We drove up to Roaring Judy and I got the camera ready; I was hoping to photograph Randy (the only person fishing) with a Kokanee performing the acrobatics I had come to expect from them. 20 minutes in, Randy had only one hookup that never went skyward. I looked at the clock and it was almost time to go.

I asked for my rod from Randy and put in about 10 casts myself...I saw 2 chases but no strikes. Renee came down and put an end to our quick was time to make the drive. I had 4 pictures from this morning...none any different from stuff you've already seen.

Heading back through the same areas I drove during Thursday night, I was amazed how different things looked when I could actually SEE the surroundings. Colorado, to me, looked very different from what I had expected...not nearly as many trees and a lot of brown! Monarch Pass was indeed the "high point" of our drive.

As you're reading this now, we made it back safely. Perhaps next year I'll get another trip going to again chase these little Sockeye's; I'm still longing to see one in full breeding dress, and the fight they put up was better than any trout we tangled with during the entire trip.
